Just got back from spending a week in Helsinki - Finland. It was wonderful, I performed at the Psychorama - Psychobilly and Burlesque festival. It was held in an absolutely fantastic venue called Korjaamo, a cultural hall, city transport museum, theatre, bar, etc...
The festival (including our backstage) was surrounded by the past trams of Helsinki ranging from the 1800s to the 1970s. Some trams were absolutely stunning, combining the practicality of Scandinavian design with ornamental features of almost forgotten eras.
I performed my Theda Bara inspired fan dance, a Traditional Circus Sideshow and Art Deco inspired fire performance. Also performing was the Finnish Itty Bitty Tease Cabaret.
I was interviewed by the Finnish newspaper called: Iltalehti, for an upcoming feature on Burlesque, Cabaret and Sideshow. I just hope I didn't sound too spaced out, as I had just come off stage!
Also whilst I was in Finland, I did a photoshoot with the talented Atelieri O. Haapala. A colaboration between the two Finnish photographers, Saara Salmi, and Marco Melander. http://www.ohaapala.com
Atelieri O. Haapala toured in various events in Helsinki between 2008-2010 with their portable photo studio. Nearly 900 old-fashioned cabinet portraits were produced for their exhibition at the Finnish Museum of Photography in 2010.
